This musical trout stream meanders through native prairie meadows, surrounded by majestic limestone bluffs about a mile from Maiden Rock. In 2008, through a collaborative conservation project between the Western Wisconsin Land Trust, Trout Unlimited, and the Wisconsin DNR, the preserve was put into a trust that made it possible for all of us to enjoy this place.
In my Pine Creek work, I investigate the mystery of the stream appearing and disappearing within the land forms. In the collecting pools I find reflections of an upside down sky being cradled by the land. The prairie grasses are also fluid and reflective, constantly shifting and massing like water. A person feels tiny, humbled and grounded here.
